Rooted in physical engagement and meditative repetition, Agnes Hong embraces uncertainty as an essential part of the creative process. Through this work, Hong explores waiting as a space for growth, change, and resilience, revealing both vulnerability and strength. The exhibition reflects the labor of nurturing relationships, capturing the evolving nature of human connection.
Hong’s practice engages with repetitive gestures and tactile materials, reflecting the often invisible labor of caregiving, particularly drawn from her personal experience. Transitioning from painting to an expansive material vocabulary, including wood, ultrasuede, velvet, organza, silk, clay, and reclaimed objects, has deepened her exploratory and immersive approach. She gravitates toward soft yet durable fabrics and various materials for their intimate quality, embracing time-intensive processes that mirror meditative, cyclical rhythms. By navigating uncertainty and waiting, Hong’s work fosters a space for growth, healing, and transformation. She captures the enduring nature of care, love, and connection through persistent, deliberate devotion.
